Invisalign Treatment Timeline Overview
The timeline for how much is Invisalign can vary depending on the patient’s initial condition, the severity of their smile alignment issues, and how regularly they wear their aligners. However, the average Invisalign timeline typically ranges between six and 18 months. During this time, patients are able to straighten their smiles without the need for traditional wires and brackets.
Invisalign takes advantage of a clear material to create custom-made, removable trays that gradually shift teeth. While this method is a popular alternative to braces, it is still a treatment option that requires regular wear and consistent follow-up appointments.
Choosing Invisalign for Straight Teeth
Once a comprehensive treatment plan is established, digital impressions or scans will be taken of the teeth and jaw to create custom Invisalign trays. The first set will be ready for the first fitting appointment within a few weeks. During this visit, the dentist will explain how to properly wear and care for your new aligners. The schedule will generally call for the patient to switch to a new tray every one to two weeks and to come in for regular check-ups every six to eight weeks.
After about a month of wearing the first set, many patients will begin to notice that their teeth are shifting and becoming more aligned. This is a great sign that the treatment is working! At this point, the patient will be able to discuss their next steps with the doctor.
The final adjustment phase may take a few more months. This is where the patient will wear their aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day (except when they are eating or drinking!) and make regular visits to the dentist for a quick check-up. At this point, the doctor will make any necessary adjustments to ensure the teeth are positioned correctly and that the alignment process is moving on schedule.
